Learn the basics of training apple trees via the espalier method during a FREE Master Gardener presentation on Wednesday, March 4, from 7pm to 9pm at the UP Library meeting room (37th and Bridgeport Way). Master Gardener John Valentine will discuss espalier methods and training techniques at this presentation.
Interested people are also invited to attend an outdoor espalier demonstration at the Curran Apple Orchard Park on Saturday, March 7 from 1 p.m. to 3pm. The orchard is located at 3920 Grandview Drive W in University Place. A regular pruning party will also be held on that date from 10am to 1pm to help maintain the 200+ apple trees in this unique city park.
Bring loppers, hand pruners and hand saws if available. Some tools available to borrow. Help is also needed with hauling branches to the dumpster.
